Toenail Removal Recovery

Hi Guys

I am Type 2 since November 2013 and after seeing my Podiatrist she referred me to have both my big toenails removed. I had ongoing ingrown toenail problems and she wanted them off to avoid the risk of any infection in future. I was advised that the healing process would take longer due to being diabetic but this surgery was 5 weeks ago today and my toes are still in a terrible painful state.

Has anyone else had this procedure and I'm keen to find out how long it took to heal.It could be normal but still wearing sandals 5 weeks on with big leaking scabs is not a good look for a guy.

Cheers.

Hi Bellington and welcome to the forum.

Five weeks with no improvement is not usual, diabetic or not.
I would see your G.P. and get him to take a look as you may have an infection.
Are your blood sugars high? If so then this will delay the healing process but I would still get them looked at.

Agree with what Catherine has said, 5 weeks and still in pain doesn't sound right and it might be you have an infection in your toes so do see your podiatrist or gp.

I've had both my big toe nails removed (on separate occasions) for the same reasons as you and mine healed up around 6-8 weeks after the surgery.
