Hi I'm currently an inpatient after suffering with migraine and eye pain for 2+ weeks - they think I have tolosa hunt syndrome and are going to start me on high dose steroid treatment tomorrow morning - extremely nervous - I know it's rare but does anyone have any similar experience. Or even just with steroids (60g prednisolone) I am on animas pump, levothyroxine, methldopa & folic acid. Thanks Jenna

Hi Jenna, sorry that you are unwell and hope you are soon feeling better.
As you know you are going on steroids find out at what time you are going on them and then stick your pump on overdrive at least an hour before the treatment starts..
When I needed IV steroids a few years back I set my pump at 30 + and corrected as I went along. I ended up with 500 mg of hydrocortisone over a 24 hour period this equals about 125 mg of prednisolone. If you are taking 60mg in one go then you need to consider increasing that to a lot more. Make sure you keep testing have plenty of hypo treatment and insulin plus spare cartridges as you could end up with a lot of insulin being used.

Thank you so much for your reply, have just finished five day course... The steroids have been horrendous on my control, but hopefully that is me over the worst of it!
