Hi

Can anyone tell me the carb content of tomatoes? I've looked in my books but 2 don't mention tomatoes at all making me think its negligible and the other gave a count of 5g per medium tomato.

Thanks

Annette

Cherry tomatoes 3.3gm of carbs per 100gm.
Fresh raw average size 3.9gm of carbs per 100gm.
Plum tomatoes 2.3gm of carbs per 100gm.

You need to be carefull with Tomatoes - they're great raw (in salads, for example), but when you cook with them the cooking process breaks down the carbs/sugars in the fruit, and has a much more significant effect on BGs.

Check out the difference between a raw tomatoe (~3g/100g) and a sun dried tomatoe (~20g/100g).
