I have been high levelled for a while (year or two) and am just getting back into the swing of things now. Im type 1. Some other things i have read make it seem as if i will deffinetly have long term effect :( really dont wana die, im 19 and was diagnosed when about 2. Please tell me this isnt the case ? If it is then im not sure there is any reason to live now :/.

I have never been told anything is wrong with me, and that things will be better when i lower my levels which i am doing now..

My hbc1 test has went down aswell which i was congratulated on so please tell me this means i can live a life without constant worry im going to die and become ill :(

At 19 you are still young enough to live a long fruitful life, yes you might have done some damage, but you are able to get things on track again. Try to be the best version if yourself, eat right, excercise and love life. It might be you live span was going yo be 92 but you've dropped it to 91.

Many of us get a wake up call and you've obviously had yours, and it can be very scary and distressing. Look through the forum and you'll find a lot of diabetic teenagers seem go through a period of rebellion and self neglect, so you're not alone! If you treat yourself badly then you may cause yourself some damage, but if you continue to look after yourself properly now, then there's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't live a long and healthy life. Go to Amazon and get yourself a copy of Dr Bernstein's book for a bit of inspiration and reassurance from a man who suffered some bad complications early in life (through no fault of his own) and managed to turn things around completely and live to a ripe old age.

Good luck and keep up your good work!

Your absoultely right its scary! Honestly so good to be told im not alone in this , and exactly what u have said has really uplifted the way im thinking, u have made a difference to my attitude! I am also away to order that book justnow, i needed that and will take ur advise :) what book is it or is there only one he has written? Thanks so much !

Let's be honest here. Being high for a long time is bad for you. There is no doubt about that. There is hope though. You realise this and if you can maintain a much better glucose level ( and that means an average that is below six with limited hypos) then the anecdotal evidence suggests that you can reverse damage.

This I really hard though, I won't dress it up. If you choose this way, good luck. I'm sure you can do it!
