I do not have diabetes
Hi :)

I'm a very overweight, middle aged female. I've had a few episodes in the past where I have started to feel uncontrollably shaky and spaced out and dizzy if I have been out and about and maybe skipped breakfast and lunch. These have always been quickly resolveable by eating something. Yesterday I was out and about again, and I had a big lunch. So come dinner time I was not hungry, and did not eat. I had a slight headache all afternoon/evening, by about 9pm I started to feel a bit funny, nausea - no shaking, but sudden extreme dizziness. So, I had something to eat and went to bed, assuming it was the same situation as had happened before. My headache stopped, almost straight away but the dizziness continued for hours, it was very bad, I felt as if I had completely lost my balance. Every time I lifted my head from the pillow the room spun, and my eyes could not focus properly. Eventually I fell asleep, after hours, and woke up this morning, feeling better, but not 100% , still slight nausea and dizziness. I have eaten, though I do not feel like eating. I just wondered, could you tell me, does this sound like a low blood sugar episode?

Hi, sorry to hear you have been feeling unwell. The best thing is to go to your GP with your concerns, it could be another medical problem as you are undiagnosed as having diabetes ?
It could possibly be a few things like, problems with blood pressure or high Cholesterol. Months ago my adult son told me of feeling unwell at times, told me the symptoms, which were so like classic diabetes symptoms, so I tested his blood glucose and it was a good normal reading:) turns out he had very high Cholesterol and was given medication by his GP.
So don't leave it any longer, get yourself off to your GP's or your local pharmacy for a 'diabetes check' good luck.
Best wishes RRB

Yes, I agree with @Robinredbreast - get thee to a doctor!

(and then, if you do have any blood glucose stuff going on, come back, and read up on this forum. we have great information!)

Thank you all for your replies. My mum in law is type 2 diabetic, and she has tested my blood a few times and it has always been ok, I just assumed because it was related to not eating, and because I am overweight I might be pre diabetic. It really was the worst I have ever felt this time, and I was very scared. I will go get checked.Thank you again, I appreciate your kindness!

The only other thing I can think of, is to check this thread out:
http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/thr...orum-section-on-reactive-hypoglycaemia.65454/
But you have to understand, I am a bit over twitchy where reactive hyopoglycaemia is concerned - I have a tendency to see it everywhere. ;)
Just because I'm suggesting you read the thread does NOT mean that it necessarily applies to you!

Agree with above posts that you need to see the doctor, but whatever happens, you also need to start eating properly. By that I mean regular meals and, whether you are diabetic or not, I would recommend that you follow the low carb diet in order to lose weight and balance your blood sugar levels. It sounds like you are having hypos - what you are eating causing glucose to rise rapidly and then slump. I went on for years like this because I was eating too many carbs and couldn't accept that I could manage without them.
There is lots of info on this forum about low-carbing - but check with the doctor first in case you have some other condition that would contradict this diet.

I agree with everyone that you must see a doctor and try to eat 3 meals a day evenly spaced for your general health.

I also wonder, if you are skipping meals are you still drinking? You could well be dehydrated. Dizzyness and headaches are symptoms of dehydration (as well as other things). Drink, drink, drink! Water is best, but tea also counts.

I don't drink very much at all, I don't often feel thirsty, Husband is always giving me a row, will make more effort in the direction also.
