Evening everyone. I've had the most fantastic 3 days where my bg levels have been between 4.9 and 7.8. I have reduced my carbs a little - no potatoes with dinner, but apart from that I've not changed anything. I'm now having to lower my insulin units as I don't want hypos. I don't understand the drop in bg levels - I'm delighted of course, but totally bewildered as to why this has happened. Is this what's called the honeymoon period where my dear old pancreas is throwing out insulin before it gives up the ghost? Your views would be appreciated. Btw, I'm T1 and on mixed insulin.

I'm delighted that your numbers have been so good :)
It could well be that your pancreas is kicking out a little more insulin, hence the drop, recent research shows that Type 1's can retain some beta cell function for many years, albeit not producing insulin at anywhere near non diabetic levels. Which makes sense to me having experienced erratic drops seemingly out of nowhere at odd periods over the years

It could also be that you are more stable now, having got a grip on things - I seem to remember your diet wasn't particularly high in carbs pre diagnosis, so your poor old pancreas probably is thanking you for not giving it a thrashing :D and you are levelling out nicely.

I would say don't overthink it, keep on doing what you are doing as it's working well ;):)

Thanks signy. I do tend to try and analize too much, but I'm still trying to understand this whole D thing. I'm on a relatively low carb diet (80g per day) and perhaps I should just be happy I've stabilised my levels and accept them with good grace, but I can't help wondering how I've done it!! Long live my pancreas, well for a bit longer anyway:) I shall keep on doing what I'm doing and see how things go.

It's a funny old thing trying to get the balance right between, food eaten, exercise, and insulin - you think you've got it right and then your pancreas decides to pump out just a little insulin to keep you on your toes!! Well done on the good levels June, let's hope it lasts! I like Signy's advise to not overthink it. Take care.

Hey June, after 26 years I am still learning and knowledge is power, thumbs up :D
