Hello there. I have so many questions,at the moment... and am kinda new to the whole diabetes diagnosis stuff despite having a t1 daughter ( have been asking her questions as well and even she is confused as to whats going on with me ) so i was hoping someone here may be able to shed some light.
My biggest question at this time is, am i diabetic .... yes, no, maybe?
I have been feeling unwell for the last few months... symptoms - polyurea, polydispepsia, extreme fatigue, apparently classic signs, no real noticeable weight loss. My t1 daughter suggested tracking my sugar levels which i have been doing and they are all over the place ranging between 2.5 and 9.9 (randomly before or after eating)
Had an oral glucose test done 2 day ... fasting 5.1 which is good then 1hr and 2 hrs after. Have not got results for the 1 or 2 hour yet ... now heres where i am baffled. straight after this i left the drs and did my own reading... it was 2.5, i was sweating, shaking and confused. ( daughter gave me sweets, coffee and a biscuit which then put my bsl at 9-9mmol. Is this normal in so short a time? I thought that after having a high dose of glucose it would read as high end of normal possibly
Aoologies for the confusion and prattle. Am seeing dr again in a couple of days........ again hope someone out there can make some sort of sense of this and
Thankyou in advance

Your blood glucose fluctuations sound unusual, but not unheard of. I can't diagnose you at all, but you might want to know there is a condition called Reactive Hypoglycaemia that sees people having very low blood glucose after eating (and the glucose in the GTT would count as eating). A lot of GPs have probably never heard of it. There is some info here:
http://www.diabetes.co.uk/reactive-hypoglycemia.html

I will also tag the lovely @nosher8355 who has this condition and can tell you a bit more.

Whether you have this or not, I am sure you will be able to find info and support at this forum that will be helpful. Welcome!

Thankyou so much for the welcome and info.. will check out thread and keep all posted

saw dr today. As i suspected tests came back normal ( how could they not if i was at 2.5 mmol after leaving) Anyway the long and short of it was, i went armed this time with my own readings and details of food intake etc, even tested in front of her. She was quite surprised. I said to her, drs and tests have their place BUT i know my body better than anyone else and somethings crookk!! So now, shes doing another gtt 4 hr this time hba1c, then sending me to see a specialist. (At least she took the time to listen; maybe the evidence helped ) more waiting.... sigh

Pretty good results... maybe there was something in your breakfast that spiked you... 4.7 is a big rise.
