Hi All,
I have been prescribed Toujeo by my consultant and everything has gone great so far.

However I went to get my repeat sorted with my GP and he questioned why I am on this insulin as it shouldn't be used in under 18s and I said that the consultant has said this is the insulin I needed, as I have been using It for a month already he said he would prescribe it as its been requested by a consultant but he said some pharmacies may question this.

I went to the pharmacy to collect the insulin and again I got the same reply regarding my age and so forth , they still gave me the insulin but all I want to know ... Is it still safe for under 18s (I'm 16).

Hi @Ca2910 ,

I don't know much about Toujeo but I was intrigued so I had a look on the web.

It looks to me as if (so far) the only clinical studies have been carried out on adults, which is probably why regulators are saying don't prescribe it to under 18's.

You can read some medical information here (if you have not already done so).

I'm completely guessing here, but I'd suggest that it's got more to do with legalities rather than the insulin being unsuitable for anyone under 18. ((If you're 17 + it doesn't suddenly become OK on your 18th birthday.))

Trust your consultant, unless you feel it's causing you a problem.
