I am going away for 5 months and am seeking advice from those who have obtained insurance for long trips. Who would you recommend? I usually get insurance through the Diabetes UK website but wondered if others had recommendations as I have never used them for a trip this long.

Thanks.

Without knowing anything of your diabetes - T1/T2/treatment regimes etc., I couldn't make too much of a meaningful judgement. However, have a Google on Backpacker Insurance, which is designed mainly for gap year type activities, but a number of companies do offer it for multiple trips of over 90 days, within the course of up to 2 years. You could also look in moneysupermarket.com, as they do the usual comparisons. These longer trips are no longer considered as niche as they used to be. Clearly the costs will also be influenced by where you might be travelling.

Obviously there is the requirement to disclose your diabetes, which depending on your circumstances could impact on cover/costs.

I would suggest you will have to plan how you manage your meds (if you take any) and supplies whilst away as I doubt not bothering to take enough meds (or arrange for them to be available wherever you are) would result in a valid insurance claim.

There have been several threads on this topic on the forum, including recently, so have try the search facility on here too.
