Hi all

I am looking for an annual multi trip travel insurance that won't cost me the earth, some ins companies don't want to give me an annual europe-wide ins due to pre-existing conditions. The ones that do are quoting silly prices. Want to add hubby who is disgustingly healthy!!

I am 51 and have t2 Diabetes, no complications. Not on Insulin. Also have underactive Thyroid, am on meds for high bp and cholesterol and on an Aspirin for antithrombin 3 deffiency but have never had a blood clot.

Anyone reccommend someone? :?:

Thanks Chrissie :)

Hi Chrissie/Sue

I have just had a quote from the company you suggested Sue. For my husband and I for a week in Europe it was £14.70 each. I have Diabetes and my husband has Asthma.

Also got a quote from ColumbusDirect.co.uk. For the same details it came back at £17.64 for both of us, not each! Possibly the diabetes travel insurance company may give more cover, but Columbus direct cover is perfectly ample for us :D .

I know you were wanting annual cover Chrissie, so did a worldwide annual cover quote from columbus and that came back at just over £100 covering both conditions.

Hope this helps

Just a word of warning about travel insurance through Columbus or any other insurer that doesn't specialise in insurance for people with long-term and/or chronic conditions. All insurance companies will offer to insure you - but most will exclude any existing medical conditions. For someone with a medical condition this makes the insurance pretty much useless because, if you were to have a claim, the insurer will just claim that you are not covered for whatever the problem is because of your pre-existing condition.

When getting insurance quotes it is vital to ask them to confirm that the cover they are offering does include existing conditions that you have advised them of.

Edited by Dennis: the above is not intended as a criticism of Columbus - they may or may not cover pre-existing conditions, but as a general rule of thumb, the cheaper the premium then the less likely that the policy will cover your diabetes.

Hi Dennis,

Good point you made there as lots dont cover any existing illnesses. However, on the occasion I quoted above, that price was for both the existing conditions covered (Diabetes for me and Asthma for my hubby).

Cheers,

Heather

Good for you Heather!

In that case you got a bargain . . . . and worth others trying Columbus for a quote.
