Spent some time today tring to get insurance for 10 day holiday to Ibiza (first time have needed it since diagnosed with Type 2) After several tries Lloyds, Norwich Direct etc I rang Age Concern and got one with very little hassle £23.00 for the 10 days, had tried internet but when you mention the dreaded D word everything goes up drastically! anyhow I was happy with that. Have been reading about low carbs and even tho I saw 2 different dieticians felt I was never given any real advice, trying cinnamon, fenugreek and Alpha Lipoic Acid, would be interested on any views on these three! Thanks Lynda

Lynda - welcome to the site. Do take a look at the carbs threads here. You will get more views than you could shake a stick at.

Hi Lynda,

I started taking ALAs about 2 weeks ago after reading about them on this site. I'm a type 2, controlled by diet and exercise only. So far I've noticed that my blood sugars seem to be falling quicker following a meal but I think the proof will probably be in a couple of months time when I get my next HbA1c done. I'm trying to stay pretty low carb at the same time though so it's tricky to see which is working better - probably the low carb approach!

I tried cinammon for the first 3 months after diagnosis and it didn't make any difference to me at all. :(

Good luck though - I'd love to hear if you notice any improvement.

Hi,

I have had type 1 for 25 years and was not pleased with the quote I got through my broker this year so tried to find on the internet. Moneysupermaket.com has a search for those with pre-existing medical conditions. I searched within that and found a quote for £15 for 3 of us.

The broker that sold me the policy was Insure & Go.
