Travelling as a type 1

Hi,

I'm after a bit of advice. I'm travelling to Thailand at the beginning of March for 2 weeks and I know I have to keep my insulin and glucose strips cool but I'm not sure of the best way to do this

I've been looking at Frio cool bags which seem a good idea, but they only seem to come in sizes for 1 pen, 2 pens or 5 pens, which doesn't leave a lot of room to keep my glucose strips in as well.

Does anyone have any tips for keeping insulin pens (I'll be taking 4) and glucose strips cool without spending a small fortune?

Many thanks

You shouldn't put your glucose strips in a frio as they might get damp. They need to be kept dry .
I use a frio for insulin and find it excellent.

The max temps in Thailand in Jan are in the low 30s so there should be no problem with strips.
(indeed we often have higher temps in Summer in the part of France I live in and I have no problem then; only in the winter when it's -10! ) Just don't leave them in direct sunlight or in a hot car.

Just to be on the safe side check the max temp for your strips. I did aquick check of the One Touch site which showed an operating temp of (43°F–111°F) that's between 6 and 44 C.
Have a good time

Thanks for your response Phoenix

I've checked the max temp for my strips (Abbott Freestyle Optiums) and it says they should be kept between 4 - 30 C :?

As they come 'wrapped' in foil, I wonder whether this would protect from getting damp or whether I should just carry them round as normal :|

I used to use the same strips and took them to Tunisia with me where the temperates were about 45c and they were fine just in my bag (which meant they were not in direct heat) i did have to beep my pens cool but had a fridge in hotel and a wallet for when out during the day!
