Hi all

Just looking for some advice, i'm looking to go travelling for about a year or so and was just wandering if any other type 1 diabetics have done this and what they did when it came to having enough insulin, was thinking either stock pilling on insulin at home or finding chemists when im in various countries for insulin but can imagine this could be expensive and i'm thinking of going to countries like jordan, egypt, cambodia and thailand, where i imagine there healthcare isnt as good as the nhs.

Cheers :D

Thailand all insulin etc can be brought at the chemist. I'm type 1 on lantus and rapid and at a guess I would say insulin and test strips cost Me about 60-80 pound a week ish

Hi

I take Novorapid and Lantus. Travelled for six months from last October through India, Nepal and South East Asia finishing in Sri Lanka (in time for the second test in Colombo). I took sufficient insulin with me and had no problems. Used a couple of Frio bags when on flights and buses etc and used fridges at hotels/guesthouses/hostels as far as possible. At the start the Frio bags only held my Lantus so Novorapid was uncooled for some journeys. My HBA when tested on my return was fine.

Am going to China for 9 months from early October and have literally just got off the phone from Novo Nordisk. They told me Novorapid is available there and in Malaysia. If you want to talk to them their non 0845 number is 01293 613555.

It might be worth keeping testing strips in the fridge as you go along as when I got to my last pack they kept giving error readings, can only assume they did get heat affected.

Good luck, enjoy it and I'm sure you will have a great time.

Keith

PS Cambodia was great, loved it.
