Treating hypos, what do you use?

Last year when I was diagnosed, I struggled with hypos constantly.

Small cans of coke (party cans) are ideal for bringing sugars up quickly but not sending you too high!!

Just wanted to share this with anyone who struggles with hypos!

Don't forget to eat something sustainable after though

I use small cartons of juice too- Got sick of coke!
 
Oh I miss coke it's like a little treat mind you I don't think you enjoy it the same when you have a hypo!

Dextrose are a nightmare I could eat them all in one go like orange sherbet! Xx

Three swigs of disgusting orange lucozade and a dry as hell (cup coaster) oat biscuit. I find if I use anything I like I don't stop eating it.

I go with Lucozade tablets since they are much easier to carry or leave dotted around all over the place.
If it's a while to go until the next meal I may sometimes follow up with a biscuit, foxes coconut crunch is the favourite.
Though I must admit I too have to force myself to stop eating them.

When I have had bad hypos in the middle of the night it tend to end up as a wicked biscuit munching festival, usually till there are non left
 
AndyS I like you're style I am some what of a Cookie Monster!! Yeah lucozade tabs/dextrose tabs are brilliant but if I have a chance to eat a digestive biscuits then I shall take it! Xx

I use Haribo Tangfastics or Jelly babies - between 3-5 depending on how low my blood sugar is.

I avoid sweets most of the time so hypos are a great excuse to treat myself!

Worst case scenario if I'm out and about though is 1-3 dextrose tablets.
 
I carry Jelly babies with me, I was told that it is very quick in getting you back on track, yes they work for me, as to biscuits I cannot trust myself after opening the packet only to have just one, my thoughts are, Well another will be ok.
Las night I watched the Snooker and well I had some grapes, why the hell did I not count them out but well my left had took over and I finished the lot
Well I have a box in the fridge for the weekend I just checked they weigh 540G I recon I ate about half a box last night, Funny I had a real good sleep last night did not wake till almost 9-00am, normally it is 5-00am, do you think eating the grapes had anything to do with my gluttonous feeding?
 
Oooh yeah.. I like me a digestive for treating a hypo, the small ones that we used to get free at work were a nice round 6g CHO = 2mmol/l for me, though unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) they don't supply them anymore. But as I said before the coconut foxes are the flavour of the month at home right now
 
Digestive & milk is my weapon of choice...

Lucozade/coke if gigging or on the run with work... I'm not a massive fan of sweets. But then I'm old school I had to tune out back in 76..
Midnight hypos are strange.. I've turned down my wife's chocolate cake in the fridge for a sloppy peanut butter sandwich. With milk of course...
Though, I have been known to do Mars bars..
 
Jelly Babies.
 
Dextro tabs, on the basis that they are quick - they don't need to be broken down into glucose before raising BGs
 
Teaspoon of honey! Only works if you're home. Could make a mess of your handbag - lol!

You know what? I haven't touched a jelly baby in 38 years. But I was traveling across Holland gigging 3 weeks ago.
The lads always get shed loads of sweets for the journey which tend to smell like car air freshener...
I can quite literally smell the sugar too...
So, on the second day traveling in the back seat, unusually in these circumstances I started going low... Remembering a mention on this forum I reached for a jelly baby in a bag wedged behind the handbrake.. (A yellow one.)
It tasted just like toilet block... Lol
 
I though it was just me but I can smell the sugar in things too. I have become much more sensitive to smelll since I started eating LCHF! Weird!
 
Was doing so well! Was 5.6 after dinner.....

Hummm (brain saysi that won't get you through the night).....

4 choc digestives later..... Ooops

15.5 and that's 2 and a half hours after eating them.... No chance of a hypo in my sleep though haha

I have been known to use your honey mention on wholemeal as a 3AMer...
It makes a ruddy mess of the kitchen.. I'm used to treating & keep going as a means of blagging as if nothing is wrong... (Especially at work.)
It gives the impression of a mad stoned rocker to the uninitiated...
