Hello

Does anyone know why the maker of Tresiba 200 units/mL does not at present make and sell cartridges/penfills (and an appropriate insulin pen) for this insulin?

Also, does anyone know if the maker of Tresiba 200 units/mL intends in the near or medium future to make and sell cartridges/penfills (and an appropriate insulin pen) rather than the current situation where it is possible only to obtain from a pharmacist a box containing just three prefilled pens of Tresiba 200 units/mL?

Thank you!

Hello @DavidDK

I can’t help with your question, but see you’ve posted in the General Chat section, so your post won’t be very visible. Would you like it moved to the type 1 section where it’s likely to attract more attention? Just let me or another mod know.

Yes please Goonergal! If you are able to do that it would be very helpful indeed.

Thank you.

Because of the risk people would use the U200 insulin in a U100 pen or use it with standard insulin syringes designed for U100, and thus double dose.
Even when you make the penfills and pens different from other models, people will find a way to use their penfills in a different pen. It's a safety measure.

I agree it is annoying not to have a refillable pen for Tresiba U200 but I think it makes perfect sense. I've thought about changing to U100 for this reason but I like the lesser volume to inject my 90 units too much to do so, so I'm stuck with pre-filled pens as well.

Thank you Antje 77, that thought had never occurred to me.

That said, technically the danger of misuse of pens is ever present anyway given the effect insulin is supposed to have on the body, and I would hope that most (adult) users would be grown up and careful rather than reckless/careless.

It is annoying. At the very least it would be preferable if the pens came in packs of five rather than three.
