Hi all,

Does anyone have issues taking their blood glucose readings? I have a glucomen GM meter and lately my readings have become erratic. For example this morning I washed my hands and dried them thoroughly prior to taking a reading.
The 1st reading was 10.8 which was high since when I woke it was only 7.2.
I changed fingers and the reading was 9.8, so I rewashed my hands and the 3rd reading was 8.8.

Is this a common issue and is there anything I could try? or is there a better meter I should be looking at?

I'm afraid I don't see the problem here. Hopefully I can explain to put your mind at ease about your monitor too.

So you woke up with a reading of 7.2 and some time later, when you hadn't eaten anything since waking, you got a reading of 10.2? Have you had a look at dawn phenomenon? That might explain what is going on with this rise.

Within a short space of time you did 3 checks which ranged from 8.8 to 10.8. Glucose monitors are allowed a variation of 20% - the range you had is within that variation. Test twice with the same monitor and the same drop of blood and you will probably get slightly different readings. That's normal and doesn't suggest any accuracy issue with your monitor.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, it does help to know these things. I feel like my readings are all over the place at the moment and I'm trying to get an accurate record of my daily readings to take back to the nurse, along with a food diary.
My symptoms seem to have been more erratic too, so they may have to change some of my meds.
