Hi, it took me 18 months to get pregnant, I was told by my care team that the length of time it takes is nothing to do with diabetes, the most important thing is the blood sugar control in the few months before pregnancy and then obviously all the way through. The hardest bit is maintaining low (as well as stable, not eratic) control leading up to being pregnant as this is something with no timescale. But it is really really important. My advice is to keep as controlled as possible, take some exercise to help control your levels and don't get disheartened - it's worth it in the end. Once born, my baby had to go in to special care as her blood sugar had been slightly raised whilst inside me and then it dropped to 'normal' when she was born so it was like having a hypo for her.
