Trying for baby and glucose

Hi everyone. I am newly diagnosed, waiting to see my GP to find out more but pretty much nurse told me my fasting glucose was 13.5 and after 2h of drinking 75g it was 11.5
My question is, we have been trying for a baby for 3 years with two miscarriages. I have recently been referred to fertility clinic in Galway and as a part of pre testing they had me to do Glucose tolerance test and that's how I found out. More info on my thread in newly diagnosed.
Anyways. Is it harder to get pregnant with diabetes? ?? What happens during pregnancy as I heard it's insulin only?? Does high glucose levels cause problems to baby? I am actually 2 days away from my period and a bit scared!!
 
Sorry about your miscarriages. That's horrible.

To answer your questions, it's not necessarily harder to get pregnant when you have diabetes, but it may be harder if your blood sugar is too high. Also, blood sugar that is too high during pregnancy can affect the baby so it's best to get your blood sugar under control before you start trying for a baby. Your doctor or hospital should be able to advise you about that.

You may have to use insulin during pregnancy. It depends if you need it to keep your blood sugar under control as that's really important. For any diabetic, blood sugar levels during pregnancy have to be more tightly controlled than when not pregnant. The insulin can help do that, so, although it might be scary, it's a good thing.
 
Just a quick question. Can hypos/hyper mimic early pregnancy symptoms? ?? My period never came, I got positive test today. But I feel awful. Head is spinning, I am sweating like mad, sooooo tired and nauseated. I ran out of strips to test my bloods and won't be seeing my GP till Friday. I dunno if it's hypo but I doubt it as I am constantly drinking (sooooo thirsty) and I had my breakfast an hour ago. Hyper maybe? Or just pregnancy hormones kicking in? I know you can't tell me for sure but maybe share your experiences? I hope this pregnancy holds.....
 
I didn't have sweating in early pregnancy, but that doesn't mean it's not related. A relative of mine spent the first few weeks of pregnancy feeling shaky and faint and hot. Nausea and tiredness could be due to pregnancy - I had both of those!

If you're feeling really bad, you could always phone and ask to be seen earlier maybe?

Have you been given any medication for diabetes yet? If not, your blood sugar is more likely to be high than low. Drink plenty of water. You could also avoid too much carbohydrate in meals as this will help keep your blood sugar down. Note - do not do this if you are on meds as this might affect them.

If it was me, I'd phone anyway just to make sure all is ok.
 
I haven't been giving anything yet as I am only seeing the GP on Friday. I will see how today goes and if it's still bad I will go over tomorrow. I am avoiding as much carbs as possible. Thank you for the replay
 
False alarm. Not pregnant. Progesteron is <0.3 so I didn't even ovulate. Doctor said he doesn't know why I got positive on pregnancy test but my blood hcg is 0.9 so negative.
