Trying out the Medtronic I-port

Hi all!

I was diagnosed February this year, unfortunately I experience severe pain when taking my injections but due to timing issues I won't be getting a pump until January.

Because of this I am trying out the new Medtronic I-port which is basically a cannula that you keep on for three days and inject your insulin into the cannula using a pen.

The cannula lasts three days like with a pump and I must say it is an amazing piece of kit! I do not have any pain (just from the acidity of the Lantus *sigh*) and only feel a slight motion of the insulin going in. When using different insulin types you just have to make sure to leave at least one hour between injections, otherwise you just inject when you need to.

It isn't currently funded (it's very new on the market) and is £72 for a box of 10 but I would say if you're interested feel free to ask Medtronic about a free trial. I did and am now sporting one of two they have given to me for free to try.

My diabetes nurse is very excited as I am the first in my area to try this and I wanted more people to be aware that this is available!
