Trying to get more independent type 1

Hi I have a 15 year old son who June 2012 was diagnosed with Type 1. My world fell apart as I thought we would never cope as he has other disabilities ADHD, OCD and on the Autistic forum life was always a challenge for him anyway. Never had the free range of going out without being supervised due to not being aware of dangers. As time went on he had just started to get more independent which was nice to see, then this struck him. I have tried to show him how to carb count but not intrested probably as like another school lesson which he finds hard. I know he has took some things on board as he knows certain values to odd items he enjoys eating. I have recently had Flu and this really brought it home to me without me he can not manage on his own, it's a worry. Will this all click in place eventually for him, I hope so, is there anyone in the same situation with a child with needs.

Hi,
I would suggest getting him to meet another type 1 diabetic (proberly a boy). I would but i'm a girl and 11yrs old.
Try the JDRF days or weekends. Diabetes.co.uk also do them :!: . I know this hasn't been much help but I hope your son's alright!
Thanks
