am trying to understand what's going on with me and maybe someone can help. This forum seems great and very informative. I have had several OGTT throughout the years. I have noticed my blood sugars creeping up for the past 20 years. I am 34 now. I gave in and did another OGTT test a couple of weeks ago because I have been feeling awful and I am pretty sure it's blood sugar related. I know I have reactive hypoglycemia for sure but trying to understand if I am becoming diabetic. My fasting was 74 (pretty low) and after drinking the drink for the OGTT I spiked to 176 in 30 minutes. My insulin shot up pretty fast but as high as I thought it would. My proinsulin was 21 which is high but not outrageous. In the past my insulin went from 2 to 43 in a matter of not time. My insulin this time (from what they caught on the blood work, only went into the 20's). Anyhow, within about an hour I was down to 51 and shaking and feeling sick. My c-peptide 4 years ago was .9. They recently did another and waiting to get that back. I am dealing with lots of lows, high, feeling back, fatigue, lightheadedness, general malaise. I do best on a low carb diet but it's hard to maintain and I react to so many things. The doc prescribed 250 mg of Metformin but I feel like I convinced him to do that and now I am wondering if I need it and if it would be helpful for someone like me. I am doing this diabetes trialnet testing for the genes since my cousin was diagnosed with Type 1 in her 30's. So far I have 2 out of the 3 genes tested, waiting on 2 more to come back. Any insight, feedback, thoughts on metformin, my condition, would be helpful. I appreciate it!
P.S. Didn't mean to write so much, came in wanting to do a quick post. Lots to get out!
