Over the past few weeks I have been trying a couple of different pumps I tried a non wired one, thought I would love it but I hated it, I am now trying the tubed one and I love it, the only thing is I get very anxious and changing from the injections to a pump would be a big thing for me as I don't cope well with change. If any of you have a tubed pump could you let me know what you think about it and tell me what it's like? Thanks
I tried a non-tubed pump to start with, but the pump itself failed and I've now switched to my second choice Roche Insight, tubed pump but with a pre-filled insulin cartridge. Best choice I ever made.
Its so much more versatile for exercise and sports with the ability to vary the basal rate through the day and use temporary basals for exercise or illness. Overall the control is much better with the peaks generally smoothed out vs MDI. There are other drawbacks of course like occaisionally snagging or tangling yourself in the tubing, or forgetting that the pump is on your belt when you whip your trousers down to go to the loo .
No probs with tubimg on trousers. I've got beautiful soft sort of things my stepdad gave me and these are even better for enabling me to wear this pump on my arm. Therefore never snagging the tubes or having roaming in bed.
I worn pump on arms (must have a full remote control for this) for 4+ years now. Never caught tubing ever. The tubing just goes under my clothes. I do wear bikinis etc and cropped sports tops when working and tubing still never causes any problems at all.
New fluffy things for my arms from my stepdad are wonderful....
Yes, I forgot to say, overnight I use an MP3 player holder on my arm, works perfect, but you also need a bit of tape to stop the tube roaming of like me, you sleeep in the buff.
Also use the arm thingy when doing exercise, trap the tube under the HR chest strap and the 70cm length reaches my stomach no problems.
I have a 100 cm tube...goes from my arm straight to bum cheeks.. No where else used.
Elydave has just reminded me.. I too sleep bare which is why for me its fab to get undressed n just jump straight into bed without faffing around at all.
However, when I first started I did have a couple of sets that did get ripped out my bum during the night... Haven't had this occur now in over 4 years.. But Elydave reminded me that yes. A couple sets ripped out initially in bed....
Wearing pump on arm too at bedtime is actually a lot sexier than having an attachment either roaming loose or I couldn't even suggest where others put it in times of intimacy???
(Sorry thought somebody ought to cover this subject-lol)
I love my animas vibe and was surprised at how quickly I adapted to wearing it.
I wear it on a spi belt or clipped to my trousers during the day. (Just have to remember it's clipped on my trousers when going to the loo!) Night time it's clipped onto my pj waistband, in the spi belt, clipped onto the neckline of my nightie or free roaming. (I usually avoid free roaming though as the dogs also sleep on our bed and don't want a tangle.)
Showers and baths, I just unclip the tubing and leave it on the bed side table.
TBH, I haven't come across a downside to the pump versus life with MDI.
