I am type 2 diabetic controlled with metformin, HBA1c=41. Unfortunately, I was in control of my weight at 70kg, but suddenly found it had crept up to 84.5kg by not watching what I was eating and enjoying lots of fruit and bread (to which I am particularly susceptible). I have therefore been on LCHF for about 4 weeks, during which I have lost 8kg, so I am very happy with progress.
However, I have a consistent side-effect of pains in the stomach. Is this a known effect?

Hi,

It isn't a side effect that I have heard of, but that doesn't mean it isn't one!

Where is the pain? There are so many places we can have abdominal pain, that the possibilities are nearly endless, but I would say if in doubt, speak to your doctor.

It is worth asking how much you are drinking, and how much vegetable and salad are you eating (thinking about constipation)
and have you previously followed low fat diets? If so, the higher fat content in LCHF can be a bit of a shock to the system if we increase it suddenly.

Thanks for your reply. Well, it isn't really stomach pain, as you probably guessed, but gut pain. But I think that's what most people mean by tummy ache. I have been deliberately drinking a lot (water and coffee, I am TT), but my motions seem to have settled down now after a bit of constipation. I think you are right, it's just the change of diet, but I wondered if it had happened to anyone else. Most of my weight loss also seems to be from my non-beer belly!
