I'm 23 years old and was diagnosed a year ago with type1!! Does anyone else out there ever go and speak about having type1? There seems to be a link between diabetes and depression because of the constant monitoring and restraints of the disease. I'm definitely not depressed but sometimes I just get really down about having type1 and how much my life has changed. How does everyone cope with there bad days!?

Hi Sheil, nothing at all wrong with you. It's normal. We've got a lifelong condition and occasionally we just get fed up. I don't think there's an easy answer. We're all different. Sometimes it feels better just to write here when you're fed up, exercise, or treat is as a slight inconvenience that you won't let beat you !

I have only been diagnosed for 4 months now. I have had a lot of other issues to deal with over the last 6 years and got into quote a funk recently about the whole thing. I have been to counselling for the last 3 years and was just prescribed prozac for depression. I am not too sure if it is helping yet, but it is early days. So you are not alone. I have been finding diabetes pretty difficult to deal with at times and only joined this forum yesterday but feel quite buoyed by just how positive everyone is. I am hoping that sharing my experiences with others will help them as well as myself.

Hiya all hope everyone well!! I am 26 and was diagnosed a week ago with t1 I have 2 children and a very supportive family. I understand y people get themselves low at the thought of diabetes but I feel that unfortunately its life and we can't change it so we shouldn't let it beat us. I am a nurse and have seen many of people come in dka or lost limbs due to diabetes if we all pull together and talk about worries and ask for advice we will feel much better about it!
good luck girls and boys hope you feel better soon xxx

Hi I'm 22 and have been diagnosed for 7 months. Right at the beginning I was very positive about it all and went along with everything with such a old outlook. However, recently, I've been getting fed up too as my body's need for insulin seems to be changing and it's like starting from scratch all over again. I had a big cry last night, but I think we are allowed to get down about t sometimes. I just spoke to my nearest and dearest last night who had some good words. My nurse said that it is all trial and error, what might work for one situation might not for the next. We just need to try and keep a positive outlook and remind ourselves what we can do to change/help the situation, because it's never far! I think it helps to talk about it and vent your frustrations

Just try and think of the good days when your having a bad one. No one can argue that living with diabetes is difficult at times but you just have to get on with and work around the problems that come your way, my motivation is to live a long life and see my children have children and to see them grow-up, I can't say I've ever been depressed but I've come close with family bereavements and such, if anyone thinks they are depressed then their first port of call should be their gp, there's no shame in admitting it and everyone knows there's a strong correlation between diabetes and depression.
