Hi, diabetes runs in my family unfortunately and I was wondering if anyone else has the issue with taking metformin alongside novorapid due to insulin resistance. If so are there any alternative tablet medications available to type 1 diabetics as my dad has a horrific reaction to his metformin ie upset stomach etc.
Any answers would be appreciated, he's too stubborn to ask about having his meds changed.
Thanks

I'm type 1 30 years and on an insulin pump and take Metformin. Thankfully I have had no issues with it now but when I started it I felt a little nauseous for the first week or so. Could he ask to be changed to the Slow release version, some people seem to be able to tolerate this more than the ordinary one. If he won't ask to have them changed there is not much else anyone can do.

I take pioglitazone as metformin didn't work. I'm type 1 (for 18years) and use a pump. With lots of exercise and a low carb diet I have been able to reduce my insulin resistance considerably. Hope your dad can find something that works!
