A short while ago diagnosed with Type 1. 54 years old( always thought it only happens to young people !) I have been scuba diving for 25 years around the world. My passion and partly profession (I am Instructor). My doctor (here in Finland) told they will never give clearance for Scuba Diving for people with Type 1. Any Scuba Divers with type 1 ? I can t imagine my life without diving. They tell me I could train for a marathon run, but no diving. Pretty much good control of my BG at this early stage. Any change to pick up my diving gear in the future with Type 1 ??

I'm an enthusiastic and experienced PADI qualified diver. As a T2, I clearly don't have any experience of your issue. This site could be helpful to you: http://www.diabeticdivers.com/index.php/diving-with-diabetes/diving-with-diabetes-type-1

It could be the recent nature of your diagnosis is the issue in the first instance. I could also appreciate that being in charge of students might be considered an increased risk for the longer term.

I haven't done any reading from that site, but it looked pretty focused, and appears to have a forum.

Good luck with it all. I do hope you can find a way forward, even if it means a hiatus until you have been diagnosed a little while.

I'm a UK cave diver T1
when i go get a medical cert to dive the doctor is normally more worried about my asthma than my DM
