Hello all, I was diagnosed as Type 1 a little over two years ago. For the past year I have been very poor at monitoring my blood sugar.
I began to get a phobia about lancing my fingers. I tried my palms (couldn't get enough blood), thighs and arms - still painful, so carried on with my fingertips. I went from testing 4-6 times a day to once or twice a week.
Depending on what I was eating, I just took Novarapid units before or just after meals (4 to 10 units), but sometimes I forgot to take my Novarapid out with me!
I also always take 26 units of Lantus every morning.
Today I went to the doctors to find out about my blood test results from samples taken 2 weeks ago. My HbA1c was high at 10.6% as was my Glucose 3.06 g/l - the good news was that my Colesterol (HDL and LDL) was down and under control (0.61 & 0.85 g/l resp.).
I enjoy 5/6 small beers a week plus 2/3 glasses of red wine a week. I am quite slim and do not eat too much. Perhaps I need to cut down on crusty bread and pasta meals!
I realise that I need to again start to check my blood sugar before and after meals - but is there an easier way than lancing ones fingers to a pulp?
Please feedback you experiences.
Cheers
Dennis
