JUST GETTING READY TO WATCH THIS MORNING ON ITV 1 ITS ABOUT TYPE 1 AND TYPE 2 DIABETES SO HOPE SOME OF YOU GET A CHANCE TO WATCH IT TO SEE IF IT IS INTERESTING

I'm just watching it too - lets see how this progresses. I'm looking forward to sugar free chocolate cake myself

The chef is making a cake 'GOOD FOR DIABETICS' 'cos it's low fat and no sugar!!!

He's using Flour and Cornflower. There has been no mention of the damage that carbs do to BG.

Missed it! out walking with Granddaughter. Would have put Recorder on if I'd realised

Dear Angry Phil

To be fair he is probably following the "official guidelines". My dietician still maintains a low carb diet is not good for you long term. He would have to stick to the official rules or DR chris may lynch him!

To be fair, Phil Vickery did make mention, all be it briefly, about 'carbohydrate can do funny things to a diabetic' and also mentioned the fruit sugar in the raisins and mango.
I'd have preferred it if they'd not put the age 40 thing as a marker between the different 'Types'. There will be those who wrongly assume that you will always be Type 2 if you are over 40 (like I was) but then LADA's do seem to be off the radar when it comes to diabetes discussion on T.V.
I did get the distinct impression that there had been a lot of complaints from Type 1's recently, that had led to the piece being broadcast today on 'This Morning' so we should be grateful they tried to make the public aware of the difference between Types today.

Indeed Dr Chris and Phil Schofield were very keen to separate the two.

Hi i'm new here so bear with me while i get a hang of how things work :? .after watching this morning i'm not sre if i am recieving the treatment (type2) gliclazide 80mg,i'm a little confused as when i was confirmed to have diabetes all my symptoms came all at once!!.eyesight, tiredness ect..yet was told i was type 2..though i am not that much over wieght and fairly healthy'ish!!,but watching the proramme it sounds more like i have type 1...i've had loads of blood tests and my sugar levels are pretty high and don't seem to be getting any lower..i have a count of 12.i'm starting to think that i might be on the wrong treatment :!: which i'm inding fairly worrying!!,and was just wondering if any one advise me or reasure me,as i keep getting the same answer from my nurse .."more bloods...see how you go...ect"..though this has gone on for some months now..
kind regards from iain.

Hi iain,
Welcome to the forum. When you say you've had loads of blood tests done do those include a c-peptide test or a GAD test?
If you check with your doc. about those tests, they can help determine if you are Type 1 or Type 2.
All the best,
Chocoholic.

Hi iain,

Type 1 is possible as some people are misdiagnosed, but it sounds more likely that you are type 2. A type 1 produces no insulin at all and if untreated would very quickly have blood sugar levels that would result in ketoacidosis and hyperglycemic coma. The change in your vision and the tiredness are both symptoms of your having blood sugars that are too high. But having high blood sugars doesn't mean that you are type 1 - this is common to both types. Your vision will return to normal and the tiredness will go if you can reduce that blood sugar level.

Have a good look round the forum and you will find plenty of advice on how to go about reducing your BS.
