type 1 and viral infections?

Hi,

Since being diagnosed at 22 (five years ago) I'm finding myself increasingly susceptible to viral infections. Although I appreciate everyone gets them I seem to be getting them a lot more and they are taking a very long time to shift.

Thankfully I (now) have an understanding employer but am wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar, if it's a coincidence and whether there is anything more that can be done about it.

Hi! I don't have any advice I'm afraid, but my 3 year old who was diagnosed last year is very susceptible to all sorts and rather than get over them in a few days they seem to last for weeks at a time and then he seems to pick up another one! :crazy:

Hia - type 1 for 12 years and this is the first winter, since about late November, that I have had numerous infections and I've got one now (BSs really high so having to take qute a bit of additional insulin). I don't know why this is happening a lot more recently, or whether or not it's to do with struggling with my sugars over the set 12-18 months. Has this weakened my immune and made me more susceptible? Sorry I don't have an answer as such though.
 
If you BS are well controlled then viral infections should be no worse the problem is bacterial infections as bacteria tend to like glucose and when you'r ill you sugar goes up and sort of ends up with feeding time for the bacteria, the problem may be your age 22 as you may be picking up things for the 1st time and one school of thought says as you get older your immune system can get smarter
