Hi, I injured my ankle jogging in Spain last week ( Weds) and the pain has been steadily increasing. Yesterday my after usual breakfast my BG was 11.5 ( it's usually under 8) and after a correction dose ( 1 unit of novarapid) it came down to 8,4 & stayed around 8.0 until after dinner i the evening when it rose to 11.0 again. I did another correction dose before bed which brought me down to 8,6 & set my alarm for 3.am when my BG was 12.3 so took another 1 unit which brought down to 8.3 within an hour. This morning it was 9.3 before breakfast so I took 2 units of Nova rapid for a low carb breakfast that would normally need about 0.5 units and came down to 7.5 but within two hours rose to 10.5. I've been to A&E & told there's no broken bones, to take paracetemol , rest ice and elevate. I'm assuming the pain/ inflammation is what's raising my blood sugar? I'm usually between 5.0 and 8.0 ( and if I go above 8.0 a quick run brings me back down to 6 ) so I'm finding the high numbers alarming. The nurse wasn't interested in my blood sugar and didn't seem to understand that anything other than food would affect it. The only other thing I can think of is that I started a new Lantus pen on Thursday (took it in my Frio bag & transferred to a fridge on arrival) and wonder if there's something wrong with it? I currently take 9 units of Lantus ( basal) at 07.30 and bolus with food ( Novarapid 1 unit to 8 grams of carbs - most meals need just 2 units as I low carb).
Any advice gratefully received!

Likely to be your injured ankle causing your higher bg levels rather than your pen @Jane!

All you can do is follow the Sick Day Rules, hope your ankle gets better soon.

Pain can definitely send my blood sugar up. Sounds like you are managing it well.

I assume you are probably not doing anything too active if you're in pain from your ankle, so that'll have an effect too.
