type 1 & chocolate?

So I've been looking on the diabetes website and found it actually says there's no reason why you can't have chocolate if its part of a controlled diet & not more then 20carbs,
So my question is do any of you's eat chocolate? If so how much.
 
I eat chocolate if it's a normal chocolate bar say like a toffee crisp or Rolos then I inject a couple units for but I mostly eat dark chocolate as it's better for you and contains fewer carbs everything in moderation!

I have found that even if I inject enough insulin to cover a chocolate bar after my meals, my sugars go quite erratic.

I can have a square of dark chocolate though and that doesn't affect my levels though I do tend to have one at the end of a meal.

I used to eat chocolate all day every day so I do miss it but I've come to enjoy my little dark chocolate treat with my tea

The only time I might eat chocolate is when my bg is in the low 4's and there's nothing else around (especially if I still have IOB), other than that I don't bother now. I did use to enjoy Aldi's own Brand Moser Roth 85% cocoa chocolate, each pack comes in 5 individual bars that have around 4g of carbs each.
 
Raisin and Biscuit Yorkie every now and then, just bolus for it as normal.
 
I still haven't broke the 20 catbs rule yet although I get 2/3 20 carb treats a day eg chomps penguins small kitkats, do you guys take a seperate injection for these or just double your food injection because at the minute I'm on 4 injections a day?
 
I don't snack on carbs between meals so as not to stack the insulin or raise my BS, always leave at least 4 hours between, so I'll add it on to the end of my meal and add it onto my mealtime bolus.

If your going to have a treat eat it as a desert after your main meal, by doing so your not injecting any more than 4 times and all you have to do is incorporate the carbs in the chocolate bar into your meal-time injection, also when you eat something sweet after a main meal it's less likely to spike your bg.

I seen to have a problem increasing my food pen I panic when I take more then 4 units I have an anxiety disorder so anything bad that could happen I imagine it happening it doesn't help that I'm insulin sensitive I have 50/60 carbs for breakfast with 3/4 units of novo and still I can snack after doing this.

If you have chocolate I would recommend 85% dark as it's quite low in carbs. Other stuff is just sugar with a bit of cocoa mixed in.
 
Sugar and fat, that's why it tastes so good! And also why it should only be a treat now and then.......................

One if my big surprises after starting with continuous glucose monitoring was the total lack of blood sugar rise or spike after eating chocolate. I watched the graph with joy for a couple of hours and was staggered.

Have always been told NOT to have choc for a hypo and I've now seen with my own eyes why. All due to the v high fat content that slows the absorption of the sugar, so if you get your quick acting insulin correct and you know what exercise you've done and plan, and the effect that will have, all is hunky dory - yay!!

There is no problem having chocolate as a treat.

I now mostly have a high % dark chocolate. Hated dark chocolate before I had diabetes.

I've had the 85% bars from Aldi which were mentioned above and they didn't really affect my readings.

Hotel Chocolat also do some nice dark ranges including a good 100% bar. Only need a tiny amount of that and lasts ages.

This has inspired me to plan a series of chocolate related experiments using my new CGM..
All in the interests of science of course!
