Im currently in the middle of my year 11 GCSEs and over the past few weeks of them I've been getting stressed which has now lead to me being sick 3 times during an exam today being sent home and I'm required to go back to do another exam later on. My school isn't giving us study leave but I was wondering because of my diabetes and the sickness would my mother be able to request study leave for me so that I can stop stressing out and get back on track?

Hi Anna and welcome to the forums.

Sorry to read that you are struggling with school exams.

I'm not sure that you could use diabetes as a 'get out' with this (although there's no harm in asking, the school can only say NO.) Most people with diabetes just get on with things as best they can. If your BG levels are high then of course it can make you get stressed more easily, so are you keeping your blood glucose under good control?

I do realise that exams are a stressful period in a young persons life. Do think that you are the kind of person that gets stressed easily anyway, then perhaps you need to take a look at the way you approach the exams?

I was told at uni' that you shouldn't think of your exams as a 'test'. Instead think of it as your opportunity to tell everyone what you know!

Potentially ask your GP for some medication to take nausea away for the exam days, so at least you can stay on your normal diabetes regime with food/insulin etc. Helps also to keep your bg in balance, so your body stays energised and your brain sharp.
