Welcome
@Kerry Leigh, and Hi to your 6 year old daughter. You are both brave heroines in whatever is your favourite universe!!
If you look at the home page there is a Food and Recipes option for you. Lots of recipes there !!!!
Given that your daughter is six, Kerry, some sensible dietitian advice is probably wise also to ensure the recipes meet her needs.
Also for you both, there are a number of people who use this site and have been on insulin 'forever' (I imagine when you are 6, that 40, 50 even 60 years on insulin and still well is a long, long time)? So the future is not as scary as some people make out!!
And as I would hope that you both have been told something about hypos (hypoglycaemia, hypo = low, -gly = glucose, -aemia = in the blood) and what to do? There is a section in the home page on hypos under, I think, Type 1 diabetes.
In addition to the signs and symptoms of hypos learnt from education, website and other sources, parents learn to identify particular behaviour in their child which tells them a hypo is coming, started or getting worse.
And do you have a routine plan made with her DSN or doctor for sick days, and off-food, 'not eating anyfing' days?
Also there are forums about Children, Parents etc.
Ask away, no question is too simple, we have all at some time asked one or many and we have all made mistakes so lots of learning about how to fix 'em or prevent 'em (when we finally learn to stop making the same mistake)!!.
Best Wishes to you both! High-Five
