Hello,

I was just wondering what a typical hbA1c result is for a type 1 as I'm worried mine at 5 is on the low side?
Thanks
Claire

Target is 6.5 or less.

Your result of 5 would only be too low if it is low because you are frequently hypo. Unless you are having problems with hypos, I don't think there is a too low.

Do you have lots of hypos?

If you look at the top of the page you will see where people have listed their A1c's.
If you managed your 5 with very few hypos and are fit and healthy then great result :)

Having just read some of your previous posts, I personally would be extremely concerned with your A1c your numbers are way to low and you are in grave danger of losing your hypo awareness and having no margin for survival if you have a massive hypo. Waking between 2 - 3 mmol is not good.

Hi, thanks for the replies-thankfully haven't lost my hypo awareness (I actually think it's improved somewhat-I have very clear hypo signs) I was worried it was a bit low which is why I was trying to find out what a typical one is for an actual diabetic as I'm a tad sceptical of standard guidelines-with regard to actual reality of living with it.

Totally agree low hba1c is only feasible if it's due to good control and not too many hypos. I suspect I've a touch too many hypos as food has a massive spike and dip effect and I do do a lot of exercise. I'm hopefully getting a pump soon and think I'll invest in cgm too to get this sorted.
Thanks
