Hi!
I'm looking for some will power, or failing that some advice
I started work in a chocolate factory recently, and coincidently was diagnosed within a month! Oh the irony.
Work have been fantastically supportive. However, there is chocolate and ice cream everywhere in the office which is free to consume! And I love chocolate!
How much could I safely eat? When's a good time to eat it? Should I cut it out altogether?
Ok. It's time to go hard core and then slowly reintroduce carbs upto your crave point. In both of your posts you are fighting carbs (and I know that battle well) do it with your nurse as it will lower your insulin need http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/lowcarb101/a/firstweek.htm
Chocolate raises blood glucose slowly due to the fat content and that is why it's not recommended as a hypo treatment, there's no need to cut it out completely but like all things keep it in moderation, you'll find the best time to eat it is after a main meal, you will still need to inject extra insulin to allow for the carbs in the chocolate, the wrapper will say what the carb value is.
