Type 1 -low carb,what about fat/insulin?

Hi,

I am a type 1- 17yrs. I try to limit my carbs and eat low fat diet. However I am new to low low carb diets and am reading about it in Dr Bernstien. I have loads of questions, any response to just one would be great!!

What do people think about use of cheese/fatty meats eg lamb/ cream etc. I have always avoided these but low carb seem to advocate them?

Also I have read that alot of people eat yoghurt and rasberries for b/fast. Are rasberries OK? Dr Bernstein seems to advocate NO FRUIT- I LOVE FRUIT! Have people cut this out?

What about porridge- I though that was quite carby!?

Do people not eat any pots/rice with their dinners?

What about insulin requriments- do you just keep reducing till you get a match? Do you try to eat same amount of carbs with each meal?

I'm not an expert, and I'm type 2, but controlling it with a low-ish carb diet plus exercise.
I couldn't give up fruit either, but they are not all equal - the answer is to try a portion and then test. I found I couldn't eat pineapple, grapes or watermelon (which I love) without a big spike, but apples, oranges, berries generally and plums are OK. I was told on my DESMOND course not to eat more than 4 portions a day and that a portion is what you can fit in your hand (I have small hands, alas!) and I stick to that. I got my latest HbA1C today and it was 5.6, so it seems to be working!
As for porridge, I can't eat it without a spike, but I know some people on this forum can, so try it and test.
