Type of diabetes
Type 1
Hi there,

I have been type 1 diabetic for 7 years (diagnosed at the age of 33 just after having a vaccine - the cause, I believe) and have just joined this forum. I have a 5 year old daughter and very supportive husband. Life is hectic, I home-educate my daughter plus I childmind 20 hours per week. Due to having no external family support I don't really get a break or take time out to look after me and life is like being on a roller coaster but a very enjoyable, if not exhausting, one at that. My sugar levels are usually good and I count my carbs and hypos are rare. I have good awareness so have never passed out in all the time I have been diabetic. I am a little on the higher side as I do have a sweet tooth and sometimes opt for something quick to eat in the midst of parenting/educating/childminding (triple whammy!). My levemir (which I take each evening before I go to bed) seems to change seasonally so I need more in the Winter (25 units) and less in the Summer (15 units) which I find a pain but hey, it could be worse. I don't really talk to many people about my diabetes and I don't know anyone else who is type 1 which is why I have migrated over to here :-) I think because of the job I do (childminding) I worry about other peoples judgements of my health so I tend not to advertise or complain about my diabetes. I don't really like testing my blood sugars or injecting in front of other people but that's probably because I don't like drawing attention to myself in general. Nice to meet you :-)

Hi there @LisaM76

welcome to the forum :)

I can't begin to imagine how busy you are looking after children all day  , but well done you !!

this is a great place to meet lots of wonderful people that share the same condition , and to assist each other and have a laugh too.
