Hello, My name is irvin. I am 20 years old. I am diagnosed Diabetes in 24 April 2016. I have some Question, Why my BG Increased Significantly even though I just eat a poridge, from 221mg/dl to 324mg/dl?

Porridge is 60 per cent carbs

I just use novorapid and levemir insulin I have low calories diet
 
Nice! I already used them also a while ago. And you count carbs to take novorapid right? Because porridge is kind of a bomb of carbs and sometimes I have no idea how to measure it -so I find it very useful to have a kitchen scale to know exactly how many carbs I'm eating and take the right dose of novorapid.
Did you notice that other days are high as well? Maybe just an adjustment of the basal dose of levemir and your numbers will be alright again.

So if you were starting off at a raised blood sugar of 221 (12.3), you bolused and then ate porridge and your blood sugar rose to 324 (18) that's a decent rise, but not unexpected when eating something like porridge. It does suggests that you might need to look at whether your insulin to carb ratio for bolus dosing is correct, whether you need to use a different ratio at different times of day. The first thing to do to look at that is to check what level you are at 2 hours after eating, because you might be peaking and then come back down. Pre bolusing can help to avoid/reduce the peaks.

The rise from eating porridge is really connected to what you are eating and the timing and dosage of you bolus insulin.

You shouldn't be adjusting basal insulin to deal with food. The job of the basal insulin is to keep your blood sugar stable when you aren't eating or taking bolus insulin. You might want to have a look at you basal insulin doses to look at why you are starting the day pre breakfast at 221.

Hi @vinirvin

Many Type 1s eat porridge. It's fine as long as you take the correct amount of insulin for you and bolus (inject) at the right time.

You should also bear in mind that as you were recently diagnosed, your honeymoon period, when you body still makes a little of its own insulin, may be coming to an end. This might mean you need slightly more insulin to control your blood sugar.
 
Hi! I was diagnosed almost a year before prior to you. It's a learning process. I made the same mistake not so long ago. I ate just one cheese scone and was shocked how much it sky rocketed my BS. I could eat a whole pizza and have lower results than eating that cheese scone. Now I make sure I have lots of protein with each meal and so far it's working out for me (knocking on wood). Increasing the protein ratio may be what you need (or you are honeymooning, or need need more variety with injection sites) is my guess.
