Greetings all!
This is my first post. I'm 37 years old and was diagnosed with type 1 eight months ago. It hit hard as I've already experienced some complications including quite severe neuropathy pain.
For the neuropathy pain initially I was put on amytriptaline which didn't suit me at all, then duloxetine which suited me more, but only reduced the pain moderately. Then I tried gababpentin which worked wonders for the pain taken alongside the duloxetine.
However since using gabapentin I've experienced diarrhea which started in the evening and has got progressively worse to the point where I hardly dare leave the house unless I know I'm going to be near a toilet! I've spoken with my Dr who said it's a known side effect of gabapentin so agreed to switch me over to pregabalin. So far the pregabalin also works great for the pain. I continued to experience diarrhea for some days after stopping gabapentin so I've scaled back my diet to soup and brown bread. This seems to have stopped the diarrhea....but I'm conscious I can't live of a diet of soup and bread for evermore!
Has anybody else experienced an upset stomach with gabapentin?
How long would this stuff take to get out of my system?
Is pregabalin any better on the stomach?
The Dr didn't seem overly concerned, but could the upset stomach be down to something else entirely?
Are there other options available for neuropathy pain that perhaps don't involve these powerful drugs?
Apologies for the long story and multiple questions....I just really want to get back to living without fear of needing the loo all of the time!
Thanks in advance
