Type 1 or type 2?

Hi, I was diagnosed with what the doctor said was probably type 2 diabetes in July.

I have been following a low carb diet ever since. There was some major improvements at first but now my levels are worse than when I was eating my previous diet:

I have a significant family history of both type 1 and 2.

I am worried that I might have type 1.

What testing has been done so far ? does it include antibodies or c-peptide test ?

Hello,
I can understand your worries but it's not that bad at all to be diagnosed as type 1. Are you based in uk? If you get type 1 diagnosis, you will likely get free libre prescription in uk. I am adult onset type 1. Personally i feel the distinction between type 1 and type 2 can sometimes not so clear cut. What's more important is if we are able to keep good bs level regardless we have type 1 or type 2.

Have you discussed this with your doctor so they can do some more tests or adjust your treatment?

It's not the end of the world if you have T1.
I actually have more dietary freedom than some T2s, and if my blood sugar goes high I can inject to bring it down so in some ways I have more control over my diabetes. And as @michita said, T1s get better diabetic tech than T2s on the NHS (not fair IMO, anyone on insulin should have a cgm/flash reader, but that is the way it is at the moment).

Hopefully you can get some tests done to put your mind at rest. I would recommend that you make absolutely sure that your doctors know about your family history though, because there are some much rarer diabetes types that run in families that they may want to rule out if you're not T1 or T2. (I see @Antje77 mentioned MODY in your previous thread).

Good luck
