Type 1 pins and needles

Has anyone had pins and needles in their fingers only three fingers completely numb really weird any advise
 
Hi, yes I have been having the same problem for a few months now and its only ever in 3 fingers (middle to baby fingers) have no idea why this happens but would be really interested to see peoples thoughts!
 
How weird is that exactly the same fingers lol. God knows what it means bloody something every day!!!!!!
 
It could be a sign of diabetic neuropothy, think thats how you spell it. I get pins & needles then tingling fingers and toes then hands & feet go numb.
 
What is that soz only been diagnosed since July
 
I've had the same thing in the past...more so in the mornings..can take some time for the feeling to return...but it always does.
Interestingly though...I've not had it once since I've been low carbing...yet another reason to stick with it

As you've only been diagnosed with diabetes since July its difficult to say if its diabetes related but if your bg levels are running high then you should try and reduce them, but you have to remember that not every ailment or symptom is diabetes related so if your concerned or the pins & needles don't disappear then its best that you see your Dr and get a proper diagnosis.
 
In the last months I had the same problem in the night: the first three fingers got numb and I couldn't feel my hand. I had neurologic investigation, including nerves conduction test ( which was needed as I am 35 years diabetic ) and luckily they didn't find any sign of diabetic neuropathy. My hands, feet, arms and legs are perfect. What they found is carpal tunnel syndrome which, I was told, is quite common between diabetics. I'm now wearing a splint at night to improve. So my suggestion is for you to talk to your doctor as you could have the same I had and not a diabetic neuropathy.
 
I was going to suggest carpal tunnel.
Splints at night can help if its mild. I think they may have to be purchased by patients nowadays.
 
Hello from Australia. I have recently joined the Forum and after some amount of reading, have discovered that the most probable reason is a B12 deficiency. This is apparently a side effect of Diabetic medication (Metformin) Recommendation is to take Vitamin B12 or B Complex.
Suggest Google question and and joining the forum and enter question to specific problem.
I have had Carpel tunnel surgery on both hands already, but have the problem you list with my fingers; plus I have a burning sensation. This week I have bought B12 vitamins and am looking forward to improvement.

Don't forget carpel tunnel can return....it is not a cure all, one off operation for everybody.
 
I used to suffer this a few years ago in both wrists/hands and was duly sent off for neurological tests. The neurologists reported that it was not carpal tunnel and probably neuropathy. However, my consultant at the orthopaedic hospital said that he sees a lot of Type 1's who's reports come back void for carpal tunnel when in fact it IS. So, in 2008 he performed carpal tunnel surgery on both my wrists (at the same time - fun!!) and i have never had any more tingling and numbness since that day. As donellysdogs says, the little carpal tunnel bone can re-thicken, glad that hasn't happend to me so far.

At the same time i was having lots of problems with trigger finger on both hands and had to have 5 separate surgeries to release those. I also have dupuytrens contracture and both of my shoulders are frozen (adhesive capsulitis), my right for 4 years and my left in the painful freezing stage for a year now.

There is a link between Type 1 diabetes and problems with tendons.

I used to get this anytime i drank i would wake up with those same finger numb in the morning, Doc told me i was likely sleeping on my arm funny and being drunk prevented me from moving to a better posistion in my sleep. maybe you are sleeping funny on your arm?
 
A while back, I had pins and needles in my left ring finger and little fingers. Lasted on and off for days. Very worrying.

Ended up getting checked out by my friendly chiroprator (the man is a miracle worker).
It was a trapped nerve. Very common.
One treatment and I was fully recovered in days.

Apparently, numbness in specific fingers but not others is a clear sign of nerve issues, and you can google easily to discover which particular arm nerves are affected. nerves get pinched in the neck, shoulder, elbow and wrist, and there are 'nerve flossing' exercises (see you tube) which help a lot.

I thought it might be the onset of neuropathy. Profoundly grateful that it wasn't!

Good morning & welcome to the forum.

Oddly I've gotten the middle to little finger numbness once in a blue moon on waking. But then I put it down to sleeping awkward...
The same thing happens on the rare occaision I've hit my elbow in a certain place too.? (I think it's a documented phenomena.)
Basically putting it down to a twanged nerve. It soon goes after some flexing & shaking out of the limb..

There's no harm in discussing this with your GP if the symptom is persistent..
Could it be work related? (Just guessing from your user name.)
 
I have had carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists and had the release operations done on both.
Numbness in thumb, ring and middle finger and the middle finger side of the fourth finger, worse at night I gather because of the evening out of fluid in the body when we lay flat ( my slightly swollen legs went down and the wrists tingled like billy-oh.)
No fun holding a steering wheel either. The pressure of the wheel near where the nerve is being pressured sets it off.
The nerve conduction tests are a tad brutal but necessary. Steroid injections were a waste of time for me.
The nerve conduction test also tended to rule out a neck nerve problem but not sure if that is definitive.
Yes, mine was said to be related to long-term diabetes (Type 1). The hand surgeon says he sees some Type 2 diabetics with it even some recently diagnosed because the diabetes may have been there a long time and only been found recently.
He said he sees many people who do lots of manual work with carpal tunnel also.
