Does anyone take glargine/ lantus at night and have hypos in the morning?

When I was on MDI and had morning hypos, I reduced Lantus by 2 units and went hyper in the morning, so I was told to change the timing of my Lantus from bedtime to 6pm. That worked for me but I don't think it works for everyone.

Yes may try that doing it earlier have heard that. Obviously not helping with the Pinot !!!

Yep, on odd occasions it results in a hypo usually around the 3 to 4am mark or 6.30 to 7.30am... If it rings any bells?

Certainly the timing can make a big difference but its likely that you need to adjust your lantus dose if your having hypo's in the morning.

I see more and more people posting about problems with Lantus these days. Until a couple of weeks ago I was one of them. My consultant switched me to Tresiba at my request, and so far the results are promising. It seems to have a flatter profile (no peaks and dips in performance), and at this point is making things more predictable for me. I think it's still to early for me to shout its wonders from the roof tops, but if Lantus is causing you problems then I would look into it.

This used to happen to me so I split my dose. Half in morning, half before bed. No more hypos and morning readings are ok and fairly consistent. Doing this also made my afternoon readings better as I don't think the Lantus was lasting 24 hours.

I agree with the above.

I take my Lantus every night, around 9pm, and if (for whatever reason) my lantus dose is to high i wake up with a mild hypo of around 4mmol/L to have a snack..

If you are waking up with low sugars its because you are likely taking to much Lantus, or you should go to bed with higher sugars.. I try to get to bed when my sugars are around 6-6.5, so that i wake up they are around 5.5-6. Knowing that the lantus will slowly drop my sugars a bit ( less then 1 mmol/L) over the night.

On weekends or when i know I will be sleeping longer then 7-8 hours i eat before bed so that i can sleep in without having my sugars drop too much over the 12 hours i want to spend in bed lol So Friday and saturday night i go to be with my sugars around 7 lol so i can wake up at 1pm and still be around 5mmol/L lol

I use to have the same problem but after splitting the dosage in half - it works just fine. I now take Lantus at ten in the morning and ten at night.
