In April this year I was rushed into hospital as my sugar levels had gone through the roof and had ketones in my urine .Since that day I have carried out a fairly strict diet regime and exercised on a fairly regular basis.I have now been taken of all medication and my levels are near as **** it back to normal. Is this possible or did I never have Diabetes in the first place.
Is there some form of Viral Infection that mimics diabetes. Any help gratefully recieved

Rob, what does your doctor say?
Many people have a honeymoon period when insulin needs decrease after being diagnosed with type 1. A few of these are able to stop insulin completely for a while but not forever(though many docs don't advise it) see

There are lots of reports of people getting various viruses and this being followed by DKA and diabetes but sorry I haven't read that the diabetes then resolves.

There is a relatively rare condition called 'flatbush' diabetes or atypical diabetes or ketotsis prone type 2 diabetes. This was originally found in African Americans but there have been cases of it being diagnosed in people from other ethnic groups. The person is often overweight with a family history of type 2. This is a type of diabetes that presents with DKA , and needs insulin but then there seems to be a remmision. They can then be off insulin for a number of years but the majority have to use it or some other diabetes drug in the long run.
I've included a link to a case study as it describes the condition.

Sorry not to be more positive but the best person to discuss this with is your doctor who knows you.

Edited as seemed to have missed out part of a sentence which changed the meaning
