Hi all, I am from Ireland and am moving to the UK soon. I have been on the insulin pump for 9 years and have had great care in Ireland, all my treatment and medication free. Can I ask what the process is I'm the UK for gaining treatment/free medical supplies if anyone has information on this?
I will have a national insurance number soon so I just wonder is this all I need and then have to go through a GP or is there another scheme? Thank you!

Hi @NiamhT1

Obviously you'll have to register with a GP asap once you're over here and you'll need to ask them about the medical exemption card. I can't remember exactly what happens, but I'm pretty sure they just have to sign a form to confirm you are diabetic and then once that's sorted you'll get your prescriptions for free

Insulin and test strips are covered by the NHS (which is funded by taxes so not free). Pump funding varies according to your needs and your local health authority: not all people with type 1 have funded pumps.
