Ah reeds, no, it didn't come with a reed and made no noise when I blew down it I went from there to a piece of margarine carton and that didn't sound good so bought a 2.5 'royal by d'addario as I've used their guitar strings before, said reed was sat in water for a couple of minutes and is living in a moist container currently (I youtubed it quite hard ) and with all my fingers in place (c) I can lift 4 fingers one at a time to raise pitch ten put them back to lower it again, I'm using a TU80 tuner and blow about half a tone flat

Edit, it's an 'alto' mouthpiece too, not 'tenor' as advertised, and if I knew the difference I'd sulk but as I don't I wont

Edit, had a madras from the local carry out and the reed must chafe as the curry seems pretty hot on my bottom lip
 

Just suck the reed for a few minutes! Tastes disgusting until it's ready, but does a good job.

2.5 may well be a bit hard to start with and is probably why you are screeching - I start beginners on a 1.5 usually.

Maybe I should treat myself to a flute. I always wanted to learn the flute, but so did everyone else at the time, so I got the clarinet instead.
 
Used to play the oboe in my teen years. Gave up as subject teachers got mad with me when the music lesson rota meant I was going to miss their lesson. Also the cost of reeds. Parents couldn’t afford them. Got a grade 3, which sounds good, but there wasn’t a 1 and 2 lol!
Off for our daily 4 miler before it gets too hot again. Having said that we have had a cool wind the past two days.
Have reduced my basal due to too many night time hypos. Now back to bad DP rising from a 5-11 in less than an hour. I cannot win either way. (Not a carb in sight in the making of those numbers)
 


Doesn’t happen that often, but can I just say YASSSS! Look at that! Now if I can just stay perfectly still, eat nothing then it’ll stay there.... right?

Good morning, up early as I'm meeting with a couple of the lads for a mountain bike ride (t'other day's ride didn't happen), they live on the other side of town to me so I'll be riding an unknown track, a little nervous as my bikes an old 1998 Marin and they're on flashy modern bikes and younger than me, I should still be fitter than one of them and able to compete with the other so we'll see how it goes but I'm all excited as I've ridden just under 800 miles since the 'lockdown' started on my own.

The question now is 'mars bar or Jaffa cakes' for a pre ride post breakfast snack
 
Morning all, been back from walking for a while, very grateful for this lovely breeze!

@Fairygodmother Charles Dowding has a free open day every year here in Somerset. I don't know if it'll go ahead this year but historically it attracts literally hundreds of visitors. He also opens his garden for the village's open gardens day which is on 23 May next year.

Hope everyone's doing something they want to today, keeping well, and cycling safely @kev-w - bet you do keep up (but I'd be taking extra jelly babies with me if I were you!)

Good morning all, and there’s another sunny blue sky up above.
Despite reduced basal, 0.5 from both morning and evening doses, I woke to a 3.4, so another day or two for it to bed in then see if the evening Levemir needs to go down by another 0.5. A bit of me wonders if spending more time away from the big bad outside world has reduced adrenaline, then I remind myself that there are lots of adrenaline-raising bit of the big bad that somehow filter in. Must be the weather then. Good luck with your reduced basal @becca59, I hope it works.
Younger daughter sent a pic of the loofah seedling from the seeds I enclosed in her birthday card. I planted some too, but had run out of labels, so somewhere there’s an ugly duckling or two of squash or cucumber, or maybe even courgette?
Had the weekly zoom with the potty potters last night; sooooo grateful that the tech’s there to keep in touch.

I got away with avoiding the wrath of subject teachers, luckily, as mine often landed in PE and for some reason the PE staff were not at all bothered by my absences as they did know exactly where I was Then, in my O Level years, we managed to get me a settled slot in PE lessons as the other option was missing my O Level Music lesson... which was not a goer as I was working towards doing music at Uni. The only really lasting effect on any other subject was Maths, I missed a key Maths lesson in Algebra, and never quite caught up easily again.

But, yeah, cost of reeds for oboes put me off even thinking about oboe, along with an upper lip which did not like the stretch it had to do. I only managed the cost of clarinet reeds because I had a Saturday job from as soon as I could and the bulk of my earnings from that paid for my music and reeds. No Grades 1, 2 or 7 for woodwind instruments then - I did just 3, 5, and 8. But by the time I started teaching instruments in the late 1980s, those grades had appeared for woodwind.
 
Morning all! Steady as she goes overnight with the help of a 3am injection to stop that DP. Bit of a devil though that the only way to defeat it is to be up at 3am!
May get to see our 3 year old grandson in the park tomorrow. Beside myself with excitement and trepidation. Will have to resist the urge to pick him up and smother him in kisses. Have said though that if he tries to touch/hug me I shall let him. He’s 3 and I shall be guided by his needs.
 
Morning, 4.5 waking and a flattish line all night, I ache a bit from the ride and noticed checking my mates 'Stravas' that they did a couple of 'personal records' yesterday on the trail so the old boy's not slowed them down, scary how many Dextrotabs the 28 mile bash required as I'd guess I used around 30g glucose, 3 hours we rode, 772 feet we climbed off road and I even saw a pair of llamas in a field

Can feel it now like...
 
I’m going to call in on my sister for coffee this morning - something I’ve not done for 3 months.
 
Good morning all. Already had more IT bashing than makes for a perfect morning, I’ve been resetting, recalibration, puzzling out my new toy, a watlaa. It came out of quarantine yesterday and I set it up nicely. Somehow it lost connection overnight so had to do it all over again before sparrowsfart this morning. It was great to go for a walk in the woods yesterday afternoon without having to take out my phone to check bloods, and lovely doing stuff outdoors without an old fashioned, well, 1990s, belt with a hanging pocket for the phone so I’d get alarms.
6.3 this morning, DP slightly overdosed for, it’s the wretched +0.5 or not again.
Have as good a day as you can everyone.

Call me the Evil Fairy, don’t get too carried away now there’s more space in the ICU.
Isn’t it wonderful though to have a chance to see friends and/or family again! I don’t think I’d know how to meet up with my grandsons again without the open arms run-at-me-for-a-hug. They’re too far away for a visit yet, and I get teary just writing that. It’s been hard enough on FaceTime.
