Type 1'stars R Us

Good morning, been up since 6.30, couldn't sleep and 3.6, but all is okay. It's going to be another hot day, beautiful blue skies at the moment and no clouds. Happy Friday everyone, or TGIF

@Mel dCP Wow that pump is small, last time I looked at pumps of any sort was back in the early 80's, and they were way bigger than that. Good luck with it

Yesterday was good all down in the green line and dipped in to hypo land which was OK.

This morning high 9 but think thats our old friend DP stick his head above the parapet now back in mid 6's, might try push it up a little on as I want to go to the gym. Or I'll spend all day hovering arond the mid to low 4 which will also be fine.
 
Just had a phone call from my son, he is in hospital, he visited me yesterday but said he felt unwell
 
NEWSFLASH!! @Mel dCP was attacked by an alien life form at the hospital and is now in a symbiotic relationship with it.
All signs point to a successful union and no major robotic infiltrations were reported on testing.
A swelling on one arm is the only outward sign of the occurrence.
We will keep a watching brief on progress and report that no quarantine measures were deemed necessary.
We all wish @Mel dCP the very best and will be monitoring for any sign of similar incidences amongst diabetics in future.

Morning all! Didn’t get a massive amount of sleep last night because I just didn’t know what would happen - went to bed on a 5.1, woke at half three at 4.1 (thanks bladder) so had a single dextrose tablet, and woke up at 5.8mmol, which was nice. I’ve had 0.6u as a foot on the floor dose and am just enjoying a nice pint of espresso

Think I’ll sleep more soundly tonight!

I agree with @helensaramay, You adapt to the pump whether tubeless or tubey.
I turn my pyjama shirt inside out and place my tubey pump in the now inside pocket.
And for me it is easier to be able to either twist the pump whilst on a clip on my belt or take it off the belt and read it and enter doses etc. I can use most of my tummy to put the needle insert into.
Yes, I watch that pump does not 'dangle' from its needle insert, and any pump could detach if the skin gets over-sweaty in warm weather. I can detach the pump briefly if needed also leaving only the needle insert there.
As far as any form of pump vs staying with insulin injections - it will depend on the person, their needs and tolerances.
Some seem not to be able to tolerate a pump at all - that is a fact of life and sad that it does happen.
For me, going on a pump after 45 years of insulin injections meant improvement in my hypo awareness; elimination of night hypos, the worst type of hypos I have known; retention of my driver's license; ability to continue to my employment to its full extent; peace of mind for my wife and much improved control in general, for adapting to exercise and coping with intercurrent illness, stress, vaccinations and movies !! I am still as rapt with it 7 years later as on the first day I began with it.
A romance made on Earth !! Oops! Please do not tell my wife !!
 
Happy birthday @Cumberland 21 AGAIN?

Woke to a lovely 2.7, felt brilliant oh the joys of hypo unawareness. Less Fiasp with my breakfast and now on a 4.8. Been having a few weird reading around 5pm for the past 3 days....bloods shooting upto 15! Doing nothing at all different to what I do every work day. Grrrrr!!!

Amazing line @Mel dCP. And the pod does look smaller than I imagined....UNLESS you have massive gigantic hands????
 
For the first night - wow ! that is awesome !!- you will be wondering why you did not have it years ago ! Enjoy the feeling of a more relaxed life. Still a learning curve ahead I imagine but you have your 'wings' to be piloting this new 'life-form' !
 
They’re a pretty average size, hehehe. And it is really, really small, at 3.9 cm x 5.2 cm x 1.45 cm (1.53 in x 2.05 in x 0.57 in).

@Mel dCP, all those readings you took over many months would have helped inform your prescriber of what your basal requirements were likely to be. I think few pumpers have had such a good first day result !! I always watch for any unexplained highs particularly after a change in pump position which might indicate some leakage of insulin . Not sure with your leave-in needle insert is plastic or metal though.
 

I brought out the lever arch file and iPad with spreadsheets on, Vanessa (who is in charge of pump starts) just laughed and said “I should have guessed” so I did have my correction factors for different times of day to hand, as well as carb sensitivity and ratios, so we spent quite a while inputting all that. Hopefully all the homework has given me a head start!

Surged a little to 7.8mmol now, so I expect I’ll need to maintain the increased basal beyond 9am, as like me, even my DP isn’t a terribly early morning person.

The leave in bit is plastic, you can see it through a tiny inspection window to make sure it’s in properly. It seems pretty solidly attached, the sticky stuff is pretty secure feeling.

Interestingly, after bolusing for the carbs part of my dinner last night (19g, all veg), I didn’t have a protein rise from the salmon I had with it. Let’s see what prawns do today...
