Type 1'stars R Us

Not a very big part of today, but for me it made me realise just how good being a T1 diabetic can be.

The new gym I now use decided earlier this week to set a rowing machine challenge.

400 meters, full resistance, fastest time. No allowance for gender, weight, age. Totally unfair

I did a practice run the other day. 1.20 was target time. Achieved 1.17.5. Considering I haven’t done any rowing like this for a long time I was quite pleased.

Times started being posted.....someone even managed to set an identical time to me. I hadn’t posted my time. At 55 yrs old and a T1 I wasn’t expecting to be close to the “ younger, fitter” generation

Then whilst in the gym yesterday a guy went and did a 1.13.8. Maybe 30 yrs old, 6’3 ish and maybe 16 st and not a lot of fat.
Now this is a fast time.

This guy beats me hands down for this type of challenge. Age, size and obvious fitness are in his favour.

But there’s one thing I have in my arsenal. I’m T1 diabetic. It was 1.11.6 of pure pain. As a team me and my diabetes can still kick ass with the big boys.

Moral of my little story......living 24/7 with T1 can make you a lot stronger than you realise.
 
Morning from the Southern Hemisphere. Horrific evening and early morning for me.
Reduced basal after exercise yesterday afternoon. But BSL went to 12.8 mmol/l by teatime. Bolus Novorapid plus 40% and basal upped by 30% as correction at teat time --> BSL 2 hours later of 16.8. mmol/l Pump cartridge, tubing and needle site replaced. No bent cannula found and no symptoms of infection etc.
A further upping of basal by 40% and upping bolus correction by 50% --> 18.4 mmol/l with 1.2 ketones 2 hours later.
I ended up giving 5 plus 10 units of Novorapid intramuscularly from a different ampoule of Novorapid. The residual insulin in the dead space of the syringe tasted like insulin. Result --> 11.8 mmol/l 1 hour later and feelings of hypo. 25 g carbs eaten and bolus + 40% given leading to 12.8 mmol/l at 2 hours later. Basal kept at 130% overnight.
Periodic BSLs OK over the early morning and BSL of 4.6 mmol/l at 9 am.
So set basal now at 120% and bolus to stay at 30% plus until further notice.
Who said managing diabetes was a breeze!!
 
@kitedoc oh man that sounds like a complete mare, any idea what caused it? Anyway looks like you sorted it which is a winner.

BSL rather dull, which is good thing, and sat here watching the news but thinking of going to look for some cartoons instead which is far more fun.
 
Scraping the hypo line all night. Libre and blood testing bang in line so I couldn’t pretend it was just the Libre. Had stayed level all day, so putting it down to the insane swim fit we did yesterday sucking up my reserves from 2am.
We have a fab view from our bedroom window across fields, towards the river Aire, and the Aire and Calder canal. We sit here eating our brekkie watching red kites, buzzards and sometimes a barn owl. This morning, absolute zilch! Can hardly see the lamppost at our gate. Grey, misty, murky yuk! Tumble dryer will come into its own today. Hope it is less miserable in all your areas. Have a good weekend all.

Spike is showing a bland night, I’ve been in range since 1900 on Wednesday, which makes 61.5h so far. Wondering if I can beat my record of 78 hours? Probably not, gig tonight.

On the third day the bandage is removed, the wound since then has vastly been improved.
Revealed is a scar, no puss or infecton or an injury subject to neglect...
I say behold, concern had gone.
I got no reason something's going on.
I won't lose a limb, I can keep up my chin
Averted it seems complication again.. (I couldn't help thing of Hazel OConnor's Breaking glass as the dressing came off, for some reason.)

Seriously though, I still need to keep up the course of antibiotics..

Trust your gut instinct. Never put off seeking professional consultation.
Even if I did wind up getting treated by a pediatrition in A&E surrounded by play room Objet d'art...

My Bg are also playing silly bu ggers as well. Had a slightly low 3.1 before bed, took 25 g of carbs and woke up at 4 am with an 18.4!!!!!!!!!!!. Took correction dose and woke up at 9 am with a 9.2

had brekkie and insulin went for a walk. 1 hour later its 14.2 and Libre showing straight up rise. 2.5 hours later its now at 4.1

Type 1 certainly keeps us on our toes and always lets us know who is in charge

Look on the bright side, Jaylee - you can impress nieces, nephews and small children by telling them you got the scar by fighting off a shark when you were windsurfing off the coast of Skegness.

Now that takes me back! Hazel, Siouxsie, Liz Fraser, that girl with leather trousers, can't remember her name, and John Peel pitching in with weird stuff like Test Department. Oh, woe is me, I didn't spend nearly enough time misspending my youth!

Lol, the only thing that impresses my niece is rocked up Lady GaGa covers...

If you're looking for a bit of 1980s throwback? Check out the 2017 film "Atomic Blond.". Set during the end of the "Cold War" (& too graphic on all levels to post a YouTube trailer here.) it's a great way to misspend two hours.. Lol.
