I don't know if you caught that program last month 'The Truth About Carbs' on BBC? One bit that stuck in my head is that freezing and reheating some carbs can change their profile a bit. The below quote from this article is all I could find that references it in text but they went into a touch more detail in the program.


The reheating may have had some effect even if you didn't freeze it?
 
I wonder if the whole resistant starch thing works for type twos because the glucose releases so much more slowly that their metabolisms can deal with it. I suspect with us the super slow release could cause problems. Either a hypo if we bolus for the full amount, because I don’t think the carbohydrate actually vanishes - or a prolonged high that would need to be constantly corrected over many hours. Easy-ish do deal with on a pump with an extended bolus, but much harder on MDI. I still suspect the “all carbs turn to glucose” rule holds true for us, it’s just the speed that differs.
 
Thanks @db89 I did indeed see it and that quote was fully in my mind when I posted, I hadn't in the past noticed this affect until last night and I'm not sure if it was the pasta or the beer that induced the hypo (could well be the timing of both and the insulin). The pasta was not frozen and was actually still luke warm when I radiated it with tiny microwaves!

It was hot and tasty, I had a couple of beers after, was surprised to have a 7.9 before bed (was expecting it to be much higher - it usually is with an evening like this) and I'd have usually done a smaller correction and probably still woken slightly raised the next morning.

@Mel dCP having just read your post and I agree with you...............so it must have been the beer..........or conversely to you're monday night!
 
Well just did a test and 11.9?! Nice and not eaten anything since brekky.......well apart from the almost 3/4 pint of milk in a couple of coffee's

An odd day today. Really good even line on the happy colour then steady fall before lunch so delayed dose. Stayed low til half an hour ago. Completely the opposite from the usual threat mid morning to recreate a profile of the Himalayas if I don’t catch it in time.
 
Well been to pump clinic and consultant has said because of my chànge to fiasp and tresiba my control has improved and he didnt think i would benefit from a pump at this time but would review me in 9 months i pointed out to him that it was him who suggested it in the first place ye just cant win sometimes .he also said id get libre on prescription by september so not a total wasted journey
 

How annoying. You'll have to have a hug, because there isn't the right sort of emoji, to represent "you must be annoyed about that".
 
So is getting a pump difficult with the NHS then? I've been offered one(not from the NHS) multiple times but always turned it down because I don't want to have to wear stuff and it getting in the way and everything, but there was never any mention of having to fulfil any criteria or anything like that, just a straight up offer if I wanted one. Congratulations on Libre at least, that's a wearable that doesn't get in the way.
 

Yes. I read recently that compared to similar countries we were pretty stingy with the pumps.

The NHS, or NICE recommendations, are sort of catch 22 like. they recently started recommending a 6.5% HbA1c, but they did it because too many people T1D were so far above the previous, higher average. But, they then create so many hurdles to getting the technology you need to achieve that HbA1c, and the harder you work at achieving it, the less likely you are to qualify for pumps, or CGM.

\Help! we are prisoners in a system that is not at all logical.
