Type 2 : Born too soon -medical advances!

I've just read a basic book about type 2 diabetes and in it it states Bell's Palsy is nerve damage from type 2.
I'm now on the greater belief that I've had my type 2 40yrs. As more and more comes OUT about the disease the more evidence I have.
On that evidence I can proclaim that I've done the 600cals diet, IF regime and milkshakes and obsessive exercise regime. And I'm still diabetic. I'm afraid no cure for me!

I´m still hoping that loosing all excess weight wil get me into remision but maybe I am stuck with this type 2 just like you think you are....
I hope the scientists find a cure soon...
 
Well I had Bell's palsey for some while and it definitely was not caused by diabetes I had tumors of my parotid glands removed from my neck this involved damage to the nerves and resulted in Bell's palsy.

My son has Bell's palsy he is not diabetic he just woke up one morning and one side of his face was paralized so it would seem diabetes type 2 maybe one cause of Bell's palsey but by no means is it the only cause.

@Freema I have not suffered because of type 2. Most of that 40yrs ive had no medication nor check-ups. Maybe i was prediabetic, who knows. But i can assure you my eyes are great, my heart gets help with blood pressure tablets due to excess weight. My only complication is weight gain. On that basis I will be agreeing to bariatric surgery to reduce my weight and reduce my symptoms of type 2.
I see no evidence that being morbidly obese is good for your health, like mine.
My only challenge has always, ever been, is being overweight.
 
I totally agree John. However I have many signs like Bell's Palsy in my early years indicating diabetes but it was never picked up.
Obesity, thrush, appendicitis, bell's palsy, underactive thyroid, pcos and then diagnosed diabetic!
Nowadays I would have been tested at obesity stage, eh?
My son has just been tested for various genetical disorders. Hopefully if any he will be supported early and 3yr old watched. Unlike myself. I was turned away at gps numerous occasions without it being flagged up. I didn't know any different I was 6yrs old as first signs. My poor mum wouldnt have had a clue, as most mums in the 70s.

Mind u I have done a great job of disguising it with weight loss, excessive exercise and eating virtually nothing.
 


good luck with the operation, most get rid of their diabetes there too...

I believe it could put it in remission on lchf diet and after settling with IF. It will only say in remission for as long as I don't eat more than 600cals. I know my body.
I'm getting older and excess weight is causing more problems than the diabetes. Weight loss has to be the priority.
When I was younger, I got away with it!
I've also read fat cells are more difficult to empty the older they are. They lose their elasticity.
I have a load of old fat cells.
Until they are destroyed safely I will never be cured. My body makes the wrong kind of fats cells. I'd sware to that!

I believe you will get remission, no problem. Stick with what your doing, it will happen. Lchf diet works for some dually. Weight loss as well as good bgs.
The weight loss is the key.

yes I do Loose weight 39 Pounds till now .... and am also doing low carb higher fat at the moment...

but maybe I am the kind that has to Loose like 60 Pounds before remission
 
I don't believe Bell's Palsy is caused by Diabetes, however I could accept those with diabetes may be more prone. There are many, many reasons why a facial nerve becomes inflamed, resulting in a presentation of Bell's Palsy.

I have no idea what percentage additional risk of developing Bell's Policy occurs in diabetics, but I would suggest that like so many things diabetics seem more at risk of developing, tight control must be involved in keeping those risks down.

Not every condition we experience is linked to another.
 
Google is quite interesting on this topic. There are a number of pieces written about Bells Palsy and diabetes, ranging from the viewpoint that the symptoms of Bells Palsy as presented in cases of diabetes are in fact a mononeuropathy of the associated facial nerve to the belief that Bells Palsy in early age may be an indicator of Diabetes at a later age.

I think, as @AndBreathe says, it's fair to conclude there is a greater risk of Bell's Palsy symptoms in those with Diabetes, especially where glucose management is not great, but it is not necessarily safe to say that Bell's Palsy is a predictor of later diabetes.
 

The only thing I would add to your post Tim would be at the end that not all diabetics who are unfortunate enough to experience Bell's Policy will have it due to poor control of their diabetes. Their control could be excellent, but have suffered another trauma etc.
 
but is diabetes something you suddenly have or are there a lot of other signs and malfunctions even before the very high blood glucose; some scientist have a theory that the higher risk of cardiovascular deseases in diabetic is due to not higher cholesterols but to a much higher frequensy of damage in ones cells and blood vessels and that creates or contributes to creating insuline resistance...
where I want to go is that maybe even illnessees and problems in the body long time before becoming diabetic is due to the same underlying malfunctions

I too though in remission do not for a moment believe my self cured and for the last year have kept as near as possible to 600 -800 calories a day if I eat much more I gain weight immediately.

Also as I had bell's palsy before I became diabetic due to a scalpel cutting through my facial nerves not to be avoided though nerve was grafted in taken from just above my ear the palsy eased over about two years but still not gone it occurs to me that the diabetes could well have had an effect also but is being masked by previous damage and the effects of MG I can not be sure.

I feel yes but I haven't got medical journal proof. Just life experience. I have no other underlining conditions where nerve damage/interference is attributed from and Bell's Palsy is a nerve problem in its own right is questioned, by medics. Bell's Palsy is now classed as a symptom rather than a condition. Yrs ago, "just one of those things". Like decades of thrush. Now long term thrush is investigated. Appendicitis is hit and miss. Not everyone obese. Immune system related? Maybe?
My siblings had nothing. I had it all. Strange, don't you think? No other sibling has diabetes but all overweight.
 
my twin sister has been overweight most of her life which I haven´t very overweight, I have only been that for a decade , but I am the one getting diabetes... so not everyone in the same group of siblings do get the same deseases ...and maybe also have very different gene combinations...
children born too early and too small do get diabetes easier later in life compared to children with a more normal birthweight and born on time or about time.... I was very tiny when born 1800grams....
children born from women suffering hunger under pregnancy also easier do get diabetes later in life...
 
I feel that this is true. I was 6weeks premature and nearly died with pneumonia so was constantly pumped with anti-biotics. Most of my childhood I didn't go by 6mths without some infection. My mum's smallest baby. I'm tallest now. In many ways. Ha ha
 
I think I am going to have to discuss this with my son as no really adequate reason for his bell's palsy was discovered I have assumed that he is not diabetic because he has never been diagnosed as such but now am not so sure.

This is so it was found to be the case for babies whose mothers were pregnant during war time rationing I believe.

I am probably a case in point as was born in early 1950.

Come to think of it my best friend who was born a year before me and also my grandson's other grand father also a slightly older than me and his other grand mother are T2 as well.

I was wondering if there was a connection to diabetes and underweight babies, I was one too at 3lb, 4oz.
