Type 2 - CGM

I am a type 2 and fund Libres for myself. My GP wouldn’t even prescribe a meter and strips, but if you can afford it you’ll learn such a lot from using a Libre. They do do a free trial, maybe look into that first?

I was already using a (self funded) meter for glucose testing but also used the original Libre sensors (again self funded) for a while when they originally became readily available. (There were huge waiting lists for them at first!). I think quite a few of other T2s have used them too.

Using my meter was already showing me how I was managing my glucose levels, but the sensors taught me a lot more about how different types/combinations of food - and other issues - were actually impacting on my glucose 24/7. I found my sensors ran lower than my meter but the patterns and trends matched. My first sensor kit also came with the benefit of a scanner/reader which could also (with suitable strips) measure both glucose and ketone levels. I could upload all the sensor data to computer software and use this for creating both logs and graphs.

If you can get a free trial then I'd definitely recommend doing so, and see how it works for you.

This is also available on line from the manufacturer.
The potential downside is that the minimum package os 3 months worth. This is because it has a separate transmitter which lasts 3 months.

I would recommend taking up the Libre trial and then decide if it suits you. If not, then take up the Dexcom for 3 months.
However, all CGMs have limitations so make sure you take up the trial with your eyes open to these limitations. Otherwise, you will be disappointed, especially if you spend all your time double checking the Libre reading with finger pricks when your levels are in double figures.
